Meet The Family!

Connie Chapin is a hard working single mother and avid swimmer who turned her backyard swimming pool into a much needed community resource. As a private swim instructor who started her own mini-company, Angelfish Swimming, Connie has taught over 200 kids, some who suffer from various disabilities like autism and cerebral palsy, how to swim, a life saving skill Connie believes that all children should possess. Connie gives the lessons in her own backyard pool so that she can be available to her children at all times. In addition, Connie is an ambassador for Hopelink and a mentor for “Challenge Girls of Greater Seattle.” Her daughter Molly, 16, works on a school campaign, “No Place for Hate” and is active in her church activities. Fourteen year-old Anna is part of “The Next Generation”, which is an awareness group for the global warming epidemic.

As Angelfish Swimming's clientele was steadily increasing, Connie was delivered bad news. In 2005, newly discovered building codes were discovered, and the city of Kirkland gave her a list of required improvements to make. For 2 years, Connie has been getting extensions from the city as she has tried to make these improvements. She has held regular volunteer work days, soliciting help from clients, neighbors and members of the community, but the problems have become too great for her to fix on her own.

During this time, Connie received a full home inspection and received more bad news that would financially cripple her. Her home had been poorly constructed and was on the brink of collapsing. Now Connie faces the possibility that she will lose her business AND home at the same time.

It is now time for Ty and the gang of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” to provide the dream home that the Chapins deserve and keep Connie's business afloat by fixing the pool. While Ty and the designers, the Building Industry Association of Washington, led by Doyle Custom Homes and hundreds of volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Chapin family will go on vacation to Vero Beach Florida at the Disney Vacation Club.
